The KEE Fuel division is proud to support Western Australia’s most significant infrastructure projects, ensuring smooth operations and timely fuel deliveries for our clients.

Currently, KEE Fuel is providing regular deliveries to the Fremantle Bridges project in partnership with Laing O’Rourke. We are servicing the project three days a week, with plans to increase to five days per week as the project progresses.

KEE Fuel has also played a pivotal role in the successful completion of major rail infrastructure projects, including the Ellenbrook-Morley and Yanchep rail lines. By ensuring all equipment was fuelled and operational in line with contracted schedules, we contributed to the seamless execution of these key developments. As these projects near completion, KEE Fuel continues to provide ad hoc support, helping finalise the finishing touches.

Our team is growing, and we’re thrilled to welcome two new drivers, Matthew Austin and Tyler Allen, to the Fuel division. Matthew brings valuable experience from the mining industry, while Tyler’s expertise comes from the drilling sector. Both have quickly adapted to their roles, demonstrating the hard work and dedication that define the KEE Fuel team.

As we look to the future, KEE Fuel remains committed to delivering exceptional service and supporting critical infrastructure projects across the region. Whether it’s consistent scheduling, reliable supply, or adaptable solutions, our team ensures every client’s needs are met with professionalism and efficiency.

If you’d like to learn more about KEE Fuel’s services, connect with Brett Thiele, General Manager of KEE Logistics. Call Brett on 0419 607254 or email bthiele@keegroup.com.au.

Road congestion in WA is more than just frustrating—it’s costing the economy over $2 billion annually. The worst culprits are the intersections that leave drivers stuck, often missing a green light unless luck is on their side.

Beyond the daily commute, congestion cuts into valuable time with family and friends. According to Will Golsby from the RAC, “Our roads are struggling to keep up with demand.”

The 2023 RAC Commuting and Congestion survey found that 50% of Perth peak-hour drivers are dissatisfied with their commute. Nearly two-thirds of members believe that fixing busy intersections would be the most effective way to ease congestion on Perth roads.

The Logistics team at KEE Transport and KEE Fuel saw significant personnel changes and new initiatives. Shelley Edwards joined as Administration Supervisor, and Michael Thornton (pictured) was promoted to Operations Manager – Logistics. We wish them both success and are confident they will add great value to our business.

Visualisation

The team has also introduced the KEE Visual Boards. These boards enable individuals to discuss their areas of influence and provide a visual representation of performance and trends in Safety, Maintenance, and Production. Each meeting starts with a review of the previous day’s safety performance and any risks for the current day.

Safety First

A weekly safety focus is set every Monday to guide Safety Observations and reinforce our commitment to Felt Safety Leadership.

Our motto, “Leadership Drives Culture, Culture Drives Production,” underscores the importance of these initiatives. Come on over to the Logistics Donga at 9am Tuesday – Friday or 10am Monday to visualise the KEE Logistics work.

Our fourth Tieman Pink Pig has been built, delivered and is hot to trot. Not only will this additional tanker give us complete coverage for the Perth metro region, but the new piglet will also give greater capacity to service sites when they want and need their fuel. This in turn will create a solution to what we all need; more time to do what we need to do without interruptions.

Australian Owned and Operated

KEE chooses to use Tieman as, like KEE, it is an Australian family owned and operated company. The company was founded in 1953 by Neil Tieman. Neil and his brothers started the business from the family backyard in Preston, Victoria. They started making stainless steel tanks and vessels initially for the dairy industry. Neil manufactured the first Tieman road tanker in 1955 – a 1,000 Gallon tanker that delivered milk from Drouin to Melbourne.

The Tieman Tanker company grew quickly and due to the ever growing demand, the brothers found a larger site to work in and established a manufacturing factory in Keon Park in 1961.

Throughout the next decade larger capacity articulated tankers for the dairy industry became essential to the trade and the business grew accordingly. The company saw a niche in the market and as well as making dairy tankers, they diversified into additional food manufacturing equipment.

In 1973 Tieman introduced the first `Ringed` construction tanker to the Australian market, which reduced tare weights. The ringed tanker also added structural integrity which in turn maximised payloads.

Throughout the next twenty years, Tieman grew and grew. Interstate service branches were opened, they introduced aluminium fuel tankers and mild steel bitumen tankers to their product range and in 1994 the current Campbellfield manufacturing site was purchased.

Industry Leading Innovation

At the beginning of the century Tieman designed and built the first stainless steel bitumen tanker, an innovative non corrosive barrel design that still leads the industry today. They partnered with O.ME.P.S, one of Europe`s leading aluminium dry bulk tanker manufacturer, to become their exclusive distributor for Australia and New Zealand.

First-To-Industry

Recent first-to-industry PBS innovations by Tieman are listed below;

20m B Double

20m Rigid & Dog Trailer

26m `Tank Liner` range

the `Super Pocket`

the `Super Triple`

the `Tri Train` 42m

Heavy Vehicle Industry Icon

From humble beginnings, the Tieman family run business has manufactured over 5,000 tankers from aluminium fuel tanker road trains to state-of-the-art stainless steel milk transporters.

Neil was honoured with the Order of Australia Medal for his contribution to the Australian Transport Industry in 2011.

For those of you who like to fuel your thirst for knowledge, here are a few facts to share around the dinner table. Did you know, Rudolf Diesel (pictured), the inventor of the diesel engine, originally designed it to run on vegetable oil? In fact, one of his early demonstrations, at the World Exhibition in Paris in 1897, had a diesel engine running on peanut oil.

Did you know the world produces about 100 times more biofuels now than it did ten years ago, and by its very nature, biofuels are renewable resources. Yes, I know some of you hard-core environmentalists are lining up to shoot me down, however, it is an alternative to oil-based products, right?

Did you also know that a diesel engine in a car is almost twice as efficient as a petrol engine? Diesel engines can reach 40% and even higher efficiency compared to a petrol engines. The sad fact is that a petrol car is only about 20% efficient. What I mean by that, is only 20% of the actual fuel burned is used to move the vehicle, the rest is lost to friction, noise, or engine functions. A large majority of the energy produced actually goes out of the exhaust as heat.

Has everyone noticed the fuel prices lately? Onwards and upwards as the world enters recovery mode. Although here in Western Australia we have been sheltered from the worst of COVID-19 and to be honest most companies we talk with, in both transport and construction segments, have all said they have “never been busier” – I guess we really are the lucky ones.

The other big change in WA is that we have seen our refinery close. What will happen from here as WA looks towards importing all its fuel products? Prices should become more competitive, right?

We will see several new storage facilities completed in the next few years and the refinery change into a major storage terminal. WA should see an increase in terminal capacity to over a billion litres of fuel products. The question is, how long will that last us all, and if there are supply chain disruptions for any reason, how likely is that even to happen?

January was also another milestone for KEE Fuel as we welcomed our latest piglet into the family! This gives us surety of supply, with two trucks heading to the northern metro projects and two heading to southern projects as we play our little part in the recovery and infrastructure programs. KEE Fuel will have you covered.

And for those of you who are interested in following Kazumi’s career, our trainee has been busy:
Inducted into a fuel terminal – check
First Aid certification – check
An official traineeship commenced – check
Inducted into basically every project in Perth- check

At almost 19, Kazumi is ready to fit the “L” plates on again to head towards another training milestone. Good luck Kazumi, you have the best team in the business to help you with this!

A few weeks ago I caught up with some industry friends and we got onto the subject of statistics.

Yes, maybe my friends are as ‘nerdy’ as me and yes, we do sometimes talk about subjects that normal people might suggest were ‘abnormal’. Well this conversation was as geeky as ever;- we chatted about Fuel Burn Statistics!

I mention this, as I was a bit taken a back when one of my buddies mentioned that they had downloaded statistics from a new machine which had been operating for just a few months. The statistic that shocked both of us was that the machine had been idling 57% of it’s total usage time. And worryingly, some industry experts say this is not unusual!

We did a bit more research, and all those nonproductive hours translate into a lot of wasted fuel; almost 4 litres or more every hour.

For an owner who logs 2,000 hours per year for five years, idling could drive fuel costs up to as much as $22,200! Sometimes it’s not a bad idea being a little bit geeky- it could save you thousands!

Limit idle time at shut-off. Older engines need 2 minutes, newer engines almost none.

Turn off trucks that are waiting more than 5 minutes to load or unload.

Restrict morning warm-ups to 3 to 5 minutes.

Turn off equipment during lunchtime, breaks and other periods when not in use.

Use the automatic shutdown feature when available.

Anticipate the mobile requirements of other equipment and position the inactive machine where it won’t impede the movement of other units.

If you own a car, truck, bus, boat or any piece of earthmoving equipment we can all agree and align on one issue; these fuel prices are really beginning to hurt.

We are seeing unprecedented pump prices for fuel, driven by a falling Australian dollar vs the Greenback and the highest prices we have seen for the sale of crude oil in almost half a decade as the price passes $80 USD for a barrel of crude oil and international politics drive the supply price ever further upwards.

As we are all on this fuel pricing course together and we are all paying for the escalated prices, here at KEE Fuel we will work with you to try and come up with a solution to ease the increasing pain. We don’t have a magic wand to cure the symptoms of the problem but we may be able to help mitigate some of the associated pain!

As the old saying goes “a dollar saved is a dollar earned”. If the trend keeps heading in the same direction these dollars become more important than ever.

April is an exciting time for KEE Fuel as we are ready to take delivery of another fuel truck, ready for the Tieman tanker. We will also be rearing another Pink Pig, which will be due to hit the streets of the Perth Metro this week.

Along with the new tanker, we are very privileged to acquire the services of one of the petroleum industry’s most experienced and well respected driver trainers Brian “Yogi” Richards (pictured above). KEE Fuel continues to aim to deliver savings across the metropolitan market to our valued clients. If you’d like to be part of the Pink Pig rewards scheme, please call Leigh on: 0428 247668.
